*** THE SORCERER – OCTOBER 2021  ***

Following a lengthy break due to Covid-19 restrictions, Bookham Light Operatic Society is thrilled to be planning a production of “The Sorcerer” by Gilbert and Sullivan for October 2021.

This delightful comic opera was one of the pair’s early collaborations, but already displays Gilbert’s trademark topsy-turvydom and Sullivan’s sparkling music.

The villagers of Ploverleigh are celebrating the betrothal of Alexis, son of the local baronet, to the aristocratic Aline.  Alexis believes that true love, the source of all earthly joy, should be available to all, without constraint, and he has decided to put this principle into action at the betrothal feast.  He has invited John Wellington Wells, proprietor of an old-established firm of family sorcerers, to administer a love potion secretly to the whole village, in order to couple them in matrimony without distinction of age, rank or fortune.  What could possibly go wrong?

This production will be in the capable hands of Roger Wilman (Musical Director), Michael Ayers (Director) and Gill Eve (Choreographer).

The performances will be at Fetcham Village Hall, The Street, Fetcham, on the evenings of Thursday 28th October to Saturday 30th October, plus a matinee on the Saturday afternoon.

Rehearsals will be on Friday evenings at Eastwick Road Church Hall, Great Bookham.  There may be occasional Wednesday evening rehearsals and some Sunday afternoon rehearsals nearer to the show.
